Orthopedic Sports Medicine Update 2009 - 12/5/09

- This course is designed to equip the primary care physician to diagnose and treat common musculoskeletal injuries and conditions.
- Objectives: Following this course the healthcare practitioner will be equipped to evaluate, manage and treat common orthopedic problems; distinguish when to refer to an orthopedic surgeon; describe and perform exam technique with regard to wrist/hand/shoulder/foot/ankle/hip/low back; summarize basic fracture care; describe current evidence-based guidelines for treating knee osteoarthritis; and discuss current best practice with respect to Vitamin D supplementation.

Care of the Track & Field Athlete 2008
- A sports medicine conference for physicians and allied health professionals. This is a 1-1/2 day conference
- AMA PRA Category 1 CME credits have been applied for and will be provided by Slocum Research & Education Foundation*
- Report current concepts in training and injury prevention for elite athletes.
- Review current issues in ergogenic aids and drug testing
- Examine methods for core strengthening and mobility for the track and field athlete to equip the attendee to recommend appropriate treatment for sports-related injuries
- Conference topics include training principles, overuse injuries, exercise in the aging athlete, performance enhancing substances, issues specific to the female athlete, as well as a host of injury specific topics.
