Slocum Research and Education Foundation is pleased to sponsor the 5th Annual Fall, Fashion & Fitness fundraiser benefiting the Healthy Moves program. This is the third year the Slocum Foundation has identified Healthy Moves as a key community leader and collaborator for championing youth physical activity and literacy.
Healthy Moves is a non-profit organization bringing movement, fitness and fun to local elementary schools. Due to budgets cuts over the last several years, many physical education programs have had to be eliminated. Healthy Moves works with schools to train teachers to be able to implement physical activity into their daily activities with a variety of programs.
Healthy Moves CEO, Denise Thomas-Morrow, reflects upon why she and her collaborators started the Healthy Moves initiative: “I felt the attention that was starting to be given to children about not being physically active was so critical, and that people were blaming the kids, and at the same time not giving any aid to support the children in getting more active. In response to the continued concern from the public about childhood obesity rates, I thought, let’s get into the schools!”
Fall, Fashion & Fitness fundraiser is hosted by Ninkasi Brewing and will be on Friday November 18, 2016 from 6:00-9:00pm. The event includes dinner, entertainment, and a silent auction. Tickets are $70 for adults and $30 for kids, for more information visit the Healthy Moves website www.hm4kids.org. Don't miss the November 7th article in the Eugene Register Guard.
Slocum Research and Education Foundation is proud to be a part of the Healthy Moves endeavor to keep our kids moving!
