Slocum recognizes six graduating high school seniors for academic achievement and service to our community
EUGENE, Oregon -- On May 14, 2024, the board of the Slocum Research & Education Foundation awarded six graduating high school seniors a $1,500 scholarship. Funded by a donation from the physicians and surgeons at the Slocum Center for Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, Slocum Foundation's Scholarship Program recognizes well-rounded high school seniors who plan to pursue a career in healthcare, health-related research, public, or community health.
For the first time, the scholarships were named in Memorium for two Sports Medicine legends, Dr. Stan James and Dr. Lou Osternig. Three students were awarded scholarships in recognition of Stan James, MD, a Sports Medicine physician and founding member of the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine. The remaining three awards were named in recognition of Lou Osternig, PhD, a professor of Human Physiology at the University of Oregon involved in groundbreaking Orthopedic research.
