Slocum to Open New Surgery Center in Eugene

Slocum Orthopedics is excited to share some big news: we’re building a brand-new, physician-led ambulatory surgery center (ASC) right here in Eugene. This state-of-the-art facility will expand access to high-quality orthopedic care and help meet the growing demand for surgical services in our community.

Meeting a Growing Need

When the ASC opens in spring 2027, it will double our current surgical capacity, meaning shorter wait times, faster treatment, and easier scheduling for patients across Lane County and beyond. “This means less waiting for appointments, for surgery, and for recovery,” says Dr. Brian Jewett, President of Slocum Orthopedics. “Faster care leads to better outcomes. That’s what we’re building.”

The 34,000-square-foot facility will feature eight advanced operating rooms with room for future expansion, plus the ability for patients to stay overnight when needed. Every surgical suite will be tech-enabled and designed specifically for orthopedic procedures, supporting safer surgeries and smoother recoveries.

Physician-Led, Patient-Focused

Because the ASC will be owned and operated by local physicians, every decision clinical and operational will be made with our patients’ needs in mind. “There are no parent companies, no out-of-state headquarters, and all local ownership,” says Dr. Rudolf Hoellrich. “Clinical decisions belong to clinicians. That’s how it should be.”

We’ve been part of this community for more than 85 years, and this project is a direct investment in its future. “This center is an investment in the future of Eugene and our commitment to serving the region long into the future,” adds Todd Salnas, CEO of Slocum Orthopedics.

Designed for Better Outcomes

From the floor layout to the lighting, every detail of the ASC has been planned to create a calmer, more comfortable recovery experience. Privacy-conscious design, intuitive wayfinding, and noise reduction measures all help reduce stress for patients and families. For those who need a little extra time after surgery, our overnight stay rooms provide attentive care without the need for a full hospital admission.

“Some patients need more time after surgery,” Dr. Jewett explains. “We’ve designed the facility to allow for overnight care. Some procedures need just a little more time, not a full hospital admission. We’ve built a place where patients can stay overnight, and still go home the next day.”

Ultimately, this new center is about giving our community faster access to exceptional care in a place designed for comfort, healing, and peace of mind.
